ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a "bags-on" tactical team lead - our go-to person in the field for getting a scope of work built right. You take an assigned scope from the Project Manager, lead a small crew (1–4), and build it side by side with them. This role sits a step above our field techs and reports to the Project Manager. The PM owns the project - schedule, budget, client, design coordination, and change orders. You own the execution: planning and sequencing your scope, leading and developing your crew, and protecting the quality and the design intent down to the details. It's the clearest step on the path to Project Manager.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Take a scope from the Project Manager and lead it to completion — planned, sequenced, and built to Hurst's standard.
- Lead and develop a small crew (1–4) on your scope - set the day, direct and verify the work, and bring your people along. Lead by example.
- Execute complex carpentry and remodeling, demo through finish - framing, trim, doors and windows, and the fine details - and protect the design intent.
- Read the plans and lay out your scope; work with existing conditions (nothing is square in a remodel, and you adapt).
- Coordinate with the other trades on your scope, and keep the work clean, secure, safe, and on Hurst's standard of quality.
- Flag issues, extra work, and scope changes to the Project Manager early, with the detail to back them up.
- Track and document your work in our construction-management software.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Solid all-around carpentry: framing (walls, floors, stairs, basic roof, beams and headers), trim (base, casing, sills, aprons), doors and windows, and demo done right.
- You can read a set of plans and lay out your scope on your own.
- Comfortable running hand and power tools - and running a small crew safely.
- A strong desire to learn and keep getting better (this matters as much as what you already know) as well as a desire to pass along what you learn to the team.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license; able to do the physical work of the trade. (lift , carry , work at height and ins a variety of weather conditions...)
BONUS — OR WE'LL TEACH YOU
- Cabinetry, concrete, drywall, paint, and basic electrical/plumbing knowledge; web-based construction management software; and our specific high-performance products and quality standards.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Building Science Knowledge
- Other experience welcome — heavy machinery, architecture and design, and more.
- If you've got the craft and the drive but haven't done all of it yet, that's okay — we have a clear path and a team behind you to get you there.
WHO THRIVES HERE
- You care about getting the details right and you want to keep getting better. You'd rather make your crew better than wish for better guys. You take ownership, ask good questions, like being the person people can rely on and you want to grow toward running projects.
COMPENSATION
- Full-time, non-exempt. $29–$38/hour, commensurate with experience.
BENEFITS
- 6 paid holidays annually; 1–3 weeks paid time off (by experience and tenure)
- Health insurance; short-term disability; dental, vision, and accident insurance options
- 401(k) with company match
- Annual tool allowance
- Performance-based and discretionary holiday bonuses; project-specific and annual bonus opportunities
